As of start with my fitness journey I religiously avoided oats, as they were so without a taste and hard to chew. I was very surprised that they sticked as one of the best foods to eat for breakfast and that people were still sticking to them. To me they tasted as sand. Until I have discovered overnight oats.

Oats can be soaked in any liquid you like-normal milk, yogurt, vegan milk options, water…name it. It is important that they are in the refrigerator and covered so that they do not take smell of other food. Soaking should last at least 5 hours that oats get soft.

Besides oats and liquid you can add any spice or other ingredients like fruits and seeds. I always add fruits and nuts freshly before use and all the other stuff night before.

Here is one recipe which is we make a lot.

Overnight oats with apples


– 1 cup oats

– 1 cup milk

– 1 tbs chia seeds

– 1 tbs ground  flax seed

– 1 tsp cinnamon

– 1 tsp vanilla powder

-1 tsp honey

– 1 pinch of nutmeg

All the ingreadients are mixed together and left overnight. If you do not have some you can replace them with others or just skip them. Important is to have oats, liquid, cinnamon and honey.

In the morning just cut some fresh apples on it and add some walnuts for crunch. Still be careful with your portion sizes – this one serving has cca 270 kcal. This is the one I made for myself. For my husband I made a bit more oats, more fruits and considerably more walnuts. This is the way you can adjust your diet to your family and make cooking healthy fun.

This is recipe which you can prepare in 2 minutes in the morning. You can eat it immediately or take it to work. No excuses for skipping breakfast.
