Make sure to keep all that pleats skirts as they are making a big comeback. The biggest and most known names had them in their collections:

Now a bit about pleats through history (if this is boring for you it is time to stop reading 🙂

Making pleats, actually micro pleats,  involves very complicated procedure of textile processing. First it started with Mariano Fortuny, Spanish artist with wide range of artistic interests. Working on theatre stage lighting he got interested in textures and fashion, so continuing big passion of his parents, both artists,  who collected different textiles from whole Europe. He has discovered how to pleat textile using antique methods which he finally took with him to the grave. He admired female shape and made famous Delphos gowns, where that pleated textile especially served that purpose.

In 90is this method and pleating trend was revived by Japanese designer Issey Miyake, who against all the 8o-90 trends, made oversized clothes which were a bit Japanese traditional clothing inspired but also aimed to offer comfort. He even made a stand alone brand out of it “Issey Miyake pleats please”. Here are some of those pieces…

The successors of the designer who got retired late 90is continued the brand in a different style, trying to adjust to the requirements of modern age but still kept that pleated textile which is still breath taking! You agree?
